Expedition Solomon Islands – Leg 2 | Ocean Mapping & Mesophotic Exploration

Join the Inkfish team as we dive into the second leg of our pioneering expedition in the Solomon Islands — a mission to explore the largely uncharted mesophotic reef ecosystems that thrive between 30–150 meters deep. These reef ecosystems are vital to marine biodiversity and coastal resilience, yet remain vastly underexplored compared to their shallow-water counterparts. Leg 2 focuses on advanced seafloor mapping and oceanographic research. Using cutting-edge tools including multibeam echosounders, ocean gliders, moorings and CTD profilers, our scientists and engineers are capturing fine-scale bathymetry, tracking internal waves, and revealing hidden habitats deep beneath the surface.
