Guess who’s back again! It’s definitely been a… hot minute :,) Anyways, Homura, the main theme song from the Kimetsu no Yaiba Mugen Train movie, is an incredibly passionate, catchy, and fiery piece. As with most of her songs, LiSA’s voice just shines and soars in Homura, creating an emotional experience that is even more compelling given the song’s recurring motif in the movie as well. And of course, Animenz rendition of this song is just immaculate. As he pointed out with his cover, he epitomizes the concept of “less is more” by steering focus to the main melody without too many technical and flashy elements. I tried learning this piece with a more sensitive approach and more attention to musicality than ever. The ever-present melody maintains its clarity throughout the song and wrong notes / mistakes are easily exposed. This also demanded that I pay special attention to the dynamics this time; the contrast between the second verse of this song (which I try to play pianissimo) and the bridge / final chorus (fortissimo, or even fortississimo) is exceptionally large. Such a difference needed to be handled with utmost care and by playing the soft parts softer than usual and the loud parts even louder. With that being said, learning about these contrasts was interestingly fun, and needless to say, I’m proud of the growth that came along with learning this piece. Among my covers, this was definitely one of the more emotional ones; it manages to feel grandiose yet heartfelt, triumphant yet somber, flaming yet gentle. Once again, I sincerely appreciate all your support, it means a whole ton!
