Welcome to Mario Kart 8 Deluxe! Today we are going to be racing in the Lightning Cup with Princess Daisy. Princess Daisy, or casually Daisy, is the princess of Sarasaland and a recurring character in the Mario franchise. Following this game, she did not make another major appearance until Mario Tennis on the Nintendo 64 eleven years later, after which she became a recurring character. She is Luigi's love interest. Her name, attire, emblem, and special abilities are all flower-based. The Lightning Cup in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe has 4 tracks. Tick-Tock Clock makes its classic course debut in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe as the first course of the Lightning Cup. While its layout is mostly unaltered, it features more detail than the original. The background is redesigned with moving gears and other clock related objects placed around the track, compared to the original which was a large, empty room. Piranha Plant Slide makes its classic course debut in Mario Kart 8 and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe as the second race of the Lightning Cup. Compared to the other 3DS courses in the game, the track received many notable changes. Its aesthetic has been altered to resemble Super Mario Bros. less, in line with the more realistic artstyle of 8 and 8 Deluxe. The underwater version of the music has been removed. The starting banner, though still castle-themed, has been expanded to resemble the exterior of the larger castles, such as the one found at World 1-3 of Super Mario Bros. Grumble Volcano makes its classic course debut in Mario Kart 8 and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe as the third race of the Lightning Cup. The clouds in the sky appear to be more orange than purple as opposed to in the original version. The volcano that the players drive through as well as the volcanoes in the background now have lava running down them. The course itself maintains its layout from the original, though both the first platform after the cave and the jump from the uphill left path now have Glide Ramps. Additionally, near the end of the course, at the right side of the fork, a portion of rock that serves as a trickable ramp has been added, allowing for a shortcut. This version of Rainbow Road makes its classic course debut in Mario Kart 8 and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, where it is the last course of the Lightning Cup. It was the final race in the former game until the sixteen DLC courses were released. It takes various elements from the Rainbow Roads of all other previous installments, except for Mario Kart: Super Circuit. Like Rainbow Road from Mario Kart: Double Dash!!, the course now takes place above a brightly-lit city near a coast at night instead of the deep space from the original. The Princess Peach Statue of Liberty from Toad Harbor and the course itself can be seen in the city setting, and in the center of the city below, there is a tower that faintly resembles the Eiffel Tower, with four ? Blocks, a Mushroom, and a spinning Star visible on top of it. Christmas trees can also be seen scattered throughout the city. Also, there is a moon in the sky that can be seen right after the starting line.
