Mass of Christian Burial for Father Frank from Saint John Fisher Church. Father Frank Almade's Obituary: Father Frank Almade, 70, peacefully passed to eternal life on Wednesday, August 21, 2024, surrounded by love and prayers, after a long battle with multiple myeloma. The son of the late Frank “Fred” Almade and Mary Habjan Almade, he is survived by brothers, Fred A. (Kathy), Leonard (Mary), and Martin Almade; nieces and nephews, Ashley, Andrew, Alicia, Kimberly, Nichole and Jacqueline; and many close friends. After graduating from Bishop’s Latin School, he earned a B.A. from Duquesne University, an S.T.B. and S.T.M. from Saint Mary’s Seminary in Baltimore and a Ph.D. from Duquesne University. Father Almade was ordained a Roman Catholic priest of the Diocese of Pittsburgh on September 30, 1978, by Bishop Vincent M. Leonard and served in active ministry in the Diocese until his retirement in July of 2023. His first assignment was at St. Therese of Lisieux parish in Munhall and he served as Parochial Vicar at St. Pius V, St. Mary of Mercy and St. Sebastian parishes. In 1993 he was appointed as Pastor of Incarnation of the Lord on Pittsburgh’s North Side and from 1995 to 2002 served as Secretary for Social Concerns in the Diocese of Pittsburgh. He served as Pastor of St. John Vianney Parish from 2002 to 2006 and became Vicar for Clergy later that year. From 2007 until 2011, he ministered in Sharpsburg, bringing together the Catholic churches there to form St. Juan Diego Parish in 2009. From 2011 to 2018 he served in Lawrence County as Pastor at St. Vitus, Mary Mother of Hope, Vincent de Paul and Joseph the Worker. From 2018 until his retirement in 2023, he served the parishes of Good Shepherd, Madonna del Castello, St. Colman, St. John Fisher, St. Jude the Apostle, St. Maurice and Word of God which formed St. Joseph the Worker Parish in 2020. Father Almade will be remembered for his lifelong interest in and promotion of Catholic Social Teaching. His Ph.D. thesis, Just Wages for Church Employees, was published as a book. Father was a prolific writer, often contributing as a columnist for the Pittsburgh Catholic and other Catholic publications. He was one of the group of founders of Jubilee Soup Kitchen in Pittsburgh’s Hill District in 1978 and faithfully served on its Board of Directors for years with his close friend Father James Garvey. He was a member of the Board of Directors of Catholic Charities for over 35 years. Father taught at Duquesne University, Saints Cyril and Methodius Byzantine Catholic Seminary and in the catechist enrichment and deacon formation programs of the Diocese of Pittsburgh. He was a voracious reader and a fan of Pittsburgh sports, Bruce Springsteen, the Eastern Point Retreat Center, Lenten fish frys, shared meals and vacations with friends. He had a special bond with his 1978 ordination classmates, who annually celebrate their ordination anniversary with family and friends and have regular Christmas get-togethers. A circle of friends, parishioners, priests and caregivers supported him as his health failed. To everyone who helped in any way, thank you for making it possible for him to remain at home. Family and friends will be received from 6-8 PM on Saturday, August 24, and 2-4 & 6-8 PM on Sunday, August 25, at the St. John Fisher Church of the St. Joseph the Worker Parish, 33 Lewin Lane, Pittsburgh, PA 15235. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 AM. on Monday, August 26, at St. John Fisher Church of St. Joseph the Worker Parish with Bishop David A. Zubik officiating. Arrangements are entrusted to Savolskis-Wasik-Glenn Funeral Home, 3501 Main Street, Munhall, PA, 15120.
