The Jacksons featuring Randy Jackson - "The Hurt" (Cold Duck remix)

Taken from their 1984 album Victory, "The Hurt" was never released as a single in its own right. Written, performed and produced with Toto and featuring lead vocals by Randy Jackson, this LP cut always seemed to me like a hit that could've been. It took me over a year to complete this mix. Initially, all I came up with was a minute or two of looped beats with a lot of overdubbed percussion I'd put together. But I had no idea really of how I wanted to work those loops into the full song. Eventually after listening to a lot of '90s remixes by Louil Silas, Jr., I decided the way to approach "The Hurt" was to imagine it as one of those very long Silas mixes where the breaks go on so long you begin to lose yourself in the beat, forgetting all about the melody that sometimes floated above that groove. And so here it is....
