𝐈𝐬𝐥𝐚𝐦 𝐢𝐧 𝐒𝐨𝐮𝐭𝐡 𝐀𝐟𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐚 We may know South Africa for all the wrong reasons including the latest omricon variant, however this beautiful developed part of the world beats with vibe, colour and Islam. The first recorded arrival of Muslims known was in 1658. The Mardyckers Muslims were people from Amboyna in the southern Moluccas and were brought to the Cape in order to defend the newly established settlement by the Dutch. In 1693 Abadin Tadia, more commonly known as Sheikh Yusuf, was brought as captive with other Indonesian Muslims and exiled to the Cape of Good Hope, South Africa, which resulted in his establishing Islam in the Cape. In the late 1800s many Indians migrated to South Africa. They established Masjids and Medressahs in Durban and Johannesburg. Today South Africa has a flourishing muslim community with a strong political and financial muscle. Masjids, Islamic infrastructure, Radio stations, Halaal Boards, Rehabilitation Centres, Carelines, Islamic Universities and Islamic Banks are leading in their fields and a model to other Muslim Minorities in Western Countries. 𝐐𝐮𝐫𝐭𝐮𝐛𝐚 𝐄𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐞 Qurtuba Estate is an iconic residential estate located in Linbro Park, Johannesburg. The surroundings are rooted in Islamic architectural design. The estate’s most iconic structure, Masjid Tariq bin Ziyad, is at the centre of the sprawling five-hectare property. Homes overlook a picturesque dam. Apartments and homes spread out creating a safe enviroment. Public amenities include an active park, gym, clubhouse, astroturf soccer court, horse stables, self-catering accommodation, and various halls to host events. 𝐈𝐧𝐬𝐩𝐢𝐫𝐞𝐝 𝐛𝐲 𝐂𝐨𝐫𝐝𝐨𝐛𝐚 𝐒𝐩𝐚𝐢𝐧 Qurtuba/Cordoba in Andalus/Spain was a jewel of paradise with its lush gardens, flowing water cobbled pathways and architectural buildings. However its highlight was that it was the centre of learning, and the city of Córdoba, the largest in Europe, became one of the leading cultural and economic centres throughout the Mediterranean Basin, Europe, and the Islamic world. Achievements that advanced Islamic and Western science came from al-Andalus, including major advances in trigonometry, astronomy, surgery, pharmacology, and agronomy. Al-Andalus became a major educational center for Europe and the lands around the Mediterranean Sea as well as a conduit for cultural and scientific exchange between the Islamic and Christian world. Qurtuba, South Africa has a Muslim School with 700 resident children, A Hifz Academy and is currently building its own Islamic University. A new Masjid is under construction as well that will cater for 3000 Musalees insha Allah. 𝐵𝑦 𝑀𝑢𝑓𝑡𝑖 𝑍𝑒𝑒𝑦𝑎𝑑 𝑅𝑎𝑣𝑎𝑡 𝐷𝑎𝑎𝑟𝑢𝑙 𝐴𝑟𝑞𝑎𝑚 𝐴𝑢𝑠𝑡𝑟𝑎𝑙𝑖𝑎
