This was the first song that made me think I might actually make a living as a songwriter. I still find it a special piece to perform." (Dan Fogelberg) "Do you remember writing "To The Morning?" (Interview by Lydia Hutchinson) Yes I do, very vividly. It was the first real piano song that I ever wrote. And I had come back from college my freshman year in the summer and I sat down at my mother's piano at her house, I was home for the summer, and I remember being up in the morning and looking out through the venetian blinds, and it was a lovely sunny summer day, and I just wrote this song. It was very heavily influenced by Joni Mitchell. And it was all done in one morning. And it's still one of my favorites, I still play it in concert and it still holds up. I think it's a very good song for what it is. (Dan Fogelberg) "To The Morning" the first song on Dan Fogelbergs first album "Home Free" (released 1972), began with strings, sustaining a hauntingly beautiful chord which faded into the song "To The Morning"; a song of hope invoking the day with the lyric, "There is really nothing left to say but 'come on, morning.'" "Birds", the last song on "Love In Time" , his last studio album (released 2009), ends with the lyric, "It's over," and a similar sustained chord, fading to end the album. Long time fans, upon hearing the final chord of "Birds", have said they expected to hear "To The Morning" begin to play. And so the ending meets the beginning, "In a spiral never-ending". To all loyal Danfan, lets hear it from Dan one more time, because It's not over, it continue "To The Morning", where the ending meets the beginning, it's a Full Circle in a spiral never ever ending, let it shine, ever on....
