One of the songs which is synonymous with the 'Aloha' shows is hanks Snow's 'I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry' which Elvis described during the satellite shows as 'The saddest song I've ever heard'! Elvis sang the song just four times and all within a month of each other and the first three were all in consecutive shows. The first two were at the Hawaii shows and the third during his opening Vegas show on 26 January 1973, just 12 days after the taping of the satellite show. This, the final live rendition, was during the dinner show of 15 February 1973. In both versions sung in Honolulu, Elvis, possibly due to time constraints, omits a verse from the song which Elvis includes in this version. This originates from one of the most interesting concerts of the season, even though Elvis had to leave the stage after singing Fever in an attempt to combat a throat problem. JD Sumner and The Stamps took to the centre of the stage to sing few songs and Charlie Hodge makes the band introductions. After a few minutes Elvis came back to close the show, but he changes his mind and sings 3 very rare songs: Faded Love, I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry (with extra verse) and Polk Salad Annie (one of only two performances of this song in 1973).
