Ornately this was a coal mining started by Jack Grant in 1916 and then bought by an American coal company in 1920 and named after one of the boards of directors Frazer Lantz… hence the name Lantzville. Mining continued until 1943, when Lantzville transitioned into a small oceanside cottage town. In the water in the distance off of Jacks Road, you can see the remaining piles used for the Coal Wharf. These pilings are made from eucalyptus Trees as they resist rot from saltwater and are imported from Australia. Today there is a great place to spot birds as they have multiple birdhouses. TRAVELING TO LANTZVILLE 36 natural miles to sail Nanaimo airport Harbour Air and Sea Air Seaplanes BC Ferries DEMOGRAPHICS The average age of 51 is well above the average age of the province at 43. 62% of the population is between 40-80 years old. Not much of a workforce, mostly retirees live here. The low unemployment rate of 6.9%. REAL ESTATE Real estate prices in Lower Lantzville have been on a constant climb in the past 10 years. In 2012 you could buy a home in Lantzville for $385,000, and now the median price in this area is nearly $1.2M. It is not hard to understand why. You get all the benefits of a 3500-person town with access to all the big city amenities found in North Nanaimo just minutes away via car. Lower Lantzville has much lower property Taxes than Nanaimo. There's also a fantastic kids' park with lots of shady trees. Copley Ridge: https://www.trailforks.com/route/copl... A trail that follows the original logging trails of Pioneer George Copley, who started looking at the areas during WWI. These areas are now being developed into high-end homes for the affluent. They have good wings, a pub fair and an all-around great kitchen. The patio is a perfect way to spend a Sunday drinking Cesars and chatting with friends. The greens fees are inexpensive, and the course is easy to walk on without a reservation.
