"It's a message of solidarity and support. It's a message of love and it's a message that we are connected by a tie of humanity," Raghad Altikriti’s nephew, Zaid, told Middle East Eye. Raghad Altikriti, the chair of the Muslim Association of Britain, was summoned for questioning by the UK’s Metropolitan Police over a pro-Palestine protest held earlier this year. On Wednesday, a small crowd gathered outside Holborn Police Station to stand in solidarity with Altikriti and to oppose the Metropolitan Police’s decision to bring her in for questioning. "We are calling their bluff," Zaid added. "We see the holes in the Zionist narrative, the holes in the Western superiority narrative - the idea that the British state, America, Israel, and the West in general can claim to uphold human rights and represent freedom - when in reality, Israel has been committing genocide for the past 18 months or longer. That is what the West has come to represent." Altikriti was summoned in relation to an alleged public order offence during a major demonstration in London that took place in January. She emphasised the peaceful nature of the protest movement and said actions like these only strengthen their commitment to standing for justice and against oppression. Other key figures in the pro-Palestine coalition, which organises national marches across the UK in opposition to Israel’s actions in Gaza, also spoke at the rally outside the police station. Ben Jamal, director of the Palestine Solidarity Campaign, praised Altikriti’s resilience and condemned the decision to summon her for questioning. Noting that it should be the UK’s Foreign Secretary, David Lammy, being called up for questioning, or British citizens who have served in the Israeli army as it commits genocide in Gaza.
