Finally finished up the last video from Friday, June 11! After Xiao Qi Ji's adorable little milkie stupor and grapple with the Kong, I re-entered Asia Trail at 12:30 just in time to see they had returned outside to the yard. Which is great because I might have overstayed my welcome a bit indoors earlier. So that I could record precious up close scenes of our sweet baby for anyone to watch from anywhere. The frolicking continued as did the rain, off and on. Xiao Qi Ji scampered everywhere, chased and wrassled Mei, then settled down with her to practice boo munching. They were perfectly right in front of us, at the far end of the yard. It seemed a great opportunity to check if he was actually eating any boo, which I'm unsure of, seeing how much of it fell right back out of his mouth. He was jazzed about his rehearsal dinner with mama so he started clowning around on the jungle gym under the hammock. Silly cubbie seemed to love sliding down the slippery logs, and of course hanging upside down 😂 He pounced on Mei while she was peacefully chilling near the hammock, slid around the logs there, chased her some more, fell out of trees a few more times, and finally ended back up in his tree for a nap at 1:30. It was an extraordinary day at the zoo! Thanks for watching! 😍❣🐼🐾🌲🎋💕 This video was shot in person at Smithsonian's National Zoo by me, with my trusty camcorder on June 11, 2021 between 12:30 and 1:30. I also wanted to share some tips for navigating the Panda House for the avid fan that wants to make the most of their time there when they visit. First thing, you want to enter on the north side if the zoo, at the Connecticut Ave entrance. Why? Because it's the closest to the Asia Trail entrance. I put 3000 Connecticut Ave NW DC in GPS, which is across the street from the zoo. The first time I put Zoo parking lot in GPS and I drove in circles twice, not realizing there was more than one lot, doh! One of the parking lots is right next to the walk in entrance on Connecticut Ave. I make sure to be there before 8, which is opening time, because there will be a line by 8 (on weekends for sure). After entering, you will see the Panda statue ahead to the left a bit, where you scan the qr code and order a timed entry panda pass on the website that pops up. Do not close that window because you can order more tickets later if you refresh it. The tickets are released on the half hour mark: 8:30, 9:30, etc.. for the next hour timed entry passes at 15 minute intervals. Last few times I couldn't get to the ticket page unless I refresh repeatedly starting exactly at the :30 mark. Sometimes it wouldn't work at all. There are hundreds of people racing to snatch up one or more of 200 ish entry passes within 5 minutes. It will cause problems with the website. Nothing is perfect, you will just have to wait another hour if you miss out. To the right of the giant panda statue is the Asia Trail entrance, giant pandas are at the end of the trail. The trail is one way, once you go into the Panda yard viewing area, you aren't supposed to walk back out. Even if there is a line at the indoor habitat area, they require you wait in that line to exit. I waited in the line over half hour before, if the pandas are inside, the line will be long. Hope this helps you get more quality time with our panda family if you visit the National Zoo!
