Protestors damage properties in Portland

Portland Police say a destructive group caused damage Saturday night in the Hollywood District. Police were monitoring a gathering at Grant Park at Northeast 33rd and U.S. Grant Place. They say the group left Grant Park and began vandalizing several businesses, including banks and coffee shops. Portland Public Schools had a van damaged with broken windows and graffiti, and a pregnancy resource center was vandalized. The director at Mother and Child said her non-profit is now facing about $10,000 in damage. "I get it. If people want to protest, protest, of course. We support people’s right to free speech and everything but damaging a business? A non-profit that’s actually helping people? It’s just wrong," Maura White said. White said her non-profit does not take a stance against abortion, but instead offers resources like diapers to low-income families in need. "They don’t understand what we really do. We are just here to help people. Literally, all we do is help families. People don’t come to us and say 'hey oh my gosh I’m pregnant I want an abortion.' That doesn’t happen to us.
