Speckled Yarn Dyeing Tutorial

Learn how to dye your own yarn on the stove top. Turn captions on for instructions and information of products used. Put 4 tsps of citric acid (you can buy on amazon very easily) into some luke warm water. Get rid of all air bubbles and soak for at least 20 minutes. In a jar put in a mix of acid dyes to create the color of your choice. Be sparing and add more as you go. Put warm water and two tsps of citric acid in a separate container to add to dye when ready to test. Test dye with paper towel. Add more dye as needed to get desired color. For an even base pour dye into pot first. For a striped effect when knitting pour over pre soaked yarn. Add in yarn and submerge. Make sure the yarn is fully saturated with dye. Allow dye to absorb. Make sure water only steams and does not boil. To add speckles very cautiously add small amounts of dye into a fine mesh strainer and sprinkle over the yarn. Flip yarn over for an all over effect. Allow dye bath to exhaust. Pull pot off the heat and allow to cool. Not shown in video, rinse yarn when cool in cool water. Do not pour water directly over the yarn. Hang yarn to dry and enjoy!
