So many people have been asking me this, my friends, my family, people that I've worked with because the market’s down and people are wondering “how much should I invest? Should I invest right now? Is the market going to go back down? Is it on its way up?” So I decided in this video, I'm going to go ahead and unpack all of these questions. Before we get started. I would just like to make the legal disclaimer, this is not financial advice. I am not a CPA, I'm not a financial advisor so before you make any investing decisions, you should definitely consult your financial advisor. All right, let's get started. Should I invest right now? That is a very good question and again, the simple answer is yes. You should definitely be investing right now, but you should be investing all the time. Right now is a great time to invest because the market is so far down. However, I would like to propose the idea of dollar cost averaging. What this is, is just investing in regular intervals, and this is so important because then it doesn't matter if the market’s up, if it's down, you don't have to try to time it because let's be real, timing the market is almost impossible. Look at what's happening in February, we were just crushing it, things were doing great and then literally, overnight, the market just fell off a cliff. No one could have predicted that, no one could predict what's happening, and no one can predict what's happening tomorrow. However, if you invest in regular intervals, you can take advantage of the highs and the lows and it will average out. So let's look at an example in case you're wondering what this is. So in this example, let's just say month one, this could be week one, whatever it is, if you have an amount to invest, you should invest it over time and I would highly recommend picking an amount and investing it every month. So we'll discuss how much later in this video but for now I just want to show you what dollar cost averaging looks like and why it's a great way to invest. So let's just say month one, you invest $100, the share price of whatever you're buying, and we'll get into that later in the video as well, is 22.50 therefore you purchase 4.44 shares, then month two again in our hundred dollars, $18 a share so now you have 5.56 shares month three, same hundred dollars, share price 20, you have five. Months 4, $100, share price 17.56 now you have 5.67 shares. Month number five $100, the share price in was $24, so you got 4.17 shares. If you look at the bottom, it's a good way to see this visually. So instead of trying to time the market when it's up when it's down, and especially when you should be investing for the long term, you can see by investing in regular intervals, you're taking advantage of the high and lows, which makes a great average cost. I believe this is the best way to invest because then you're not having to constantly monitor the market, is up, is it down? What should I invest in? Oh my gosh, like, no, just whatever the dollar amount is, which we'll discuss shortly, take that amount, and literally invest it every month consistently. So yes, you should invest right now. But you should be consistently investing and now is a great time to start because the entire market overall is down. Now, could it go down further? Sure. Who knows, some people are saying this is going to be a V, some a U, some a W. A V, meaning it goes down and then it rockets back up a U meaning it's going to go down, drag for a while then go up. A W maybe goes down, up, down up. Again, nobody knows, but if you're doing dollar cost averaging and you're investing on a regular basis and allotted amount you will be able to take advantages of all of the market changes and over time again, you should be looking at a buy and hold investment strategy. This isn't, oh my gosh, we're down, now we're going to shoot up, we should sell. Again, no one has a crystal ball and it just can cause so many problems.
