Join me on a reflective journey through the battlefield's of Northern France in the Picardie Region, starting from the the Chateau Valvion, Where General Haig's Headquarters during the build up and battle of the Somme was based for the coming1st of July Offensive. This will video blog takes you through the hallowed cemeteries and war memorials of the region, from the quiet of Couin and Berles-au-Bois to the poignant silence of the larger Arras Cemetery. As the sun rises over the Chateau Valvion, we'll drive through the villages and cemeteries that marked the sacrifices of soldiers who fought and fell in this crucial part of the western front. We will visit the shattered remnants of the Mont St Eloi village & Church, the peaceful grounds of the Quatre-Vent and Cabaret Rouge cemeteries, and the large solemn Arras Commonwealth War Cemetery.
