Strong Westerlies force me to continue inland. First that requires crossing mud of over 2 metres high at low tide which was fun - many broomsticks upside down left by witches; then in true Riddle of the Sands style I stumble upon the German navy fleet at Wilhelmshafen, but encounter an unexpected problem with the sea locks at Wilhelmshafen being broken - and being told the last time there was such a "big problem" as that day, it took three weeks to repair and open again. Therefore I cannot get in and also cannot get any diesel anywhere - but thankfully a very connected electrician Thomas and Sven help getting diesel against all the odds. Just when I am about to go via the North Sea, the lock announces it can open for me and I spend a slow day going through the canal - which surprisingly is smaller and narrower than you would think.
