CHATTERLAND (Drift-Lab) from the album "Moonlight" @MatteoMancusoofficial guitar @FedericoMalamanBass bass @ManueleMontesanti piano/synths/composition This is probably my favorite song in the Drift-Lab's album "Moonlight". I remember the first time that I listened to the pre-production that was sent me, the groove programmed was very different and leading the song's rhythm walking in a totally different way. I wont say I didn't like it but I felt inside me that the melody and overall feeling of the song could be emphasized by finding something special and a different solution for every section. I started thinking about the music that I listened to for years and years, trying to find some inspirations and I came up with the three ideas that will consequently characterize the drum part of this song; I list them below. verse: straight fours groove playing the cross-stick on every quarter note, while the bass-drum sometimes underlining the bass-line, sometimes counterpointing, still marking the accents and comping with all the other instruments' part; here the inspiration comes from a groove solution that I heard many times from William Kennedy with Yellow Jackets and, in general, very often in 80's/90's Fusion music. Everything starts from the Afro-Cuban Cha-Cha rhythm, re-adapted in a different context. chorus: half-time groove, straight, solid, simple and played in a very Pop kind of way; the feeling here is laid back, but still blending and interplaying with the use of nuances and colors guitar solo: here I try to create a totally different scene, and lead the rhythm into an even-eight jazzy feel; in this case the absolute reference, for me, is all the ECM label production from late 70's to 80's and the music of Pat Metheny, especially the Pat Metheny Group in the line-up with Paul Wertico on drums. here below the link to listen the whole album "Moonlight", where this song is contained: • Moonlight
