In 1982, the Milwaukee Brewers became: Harvey’s Wallbangers. A home-run hitting, beer-soaked, small-market miracle, built in the image of the town they played for. This journey begins with a vintage 1982 Brewers t-shirt I stumbled across, with “Cesar’s Inn” stamped on the back, just another local bar in a town defined by beer...or so I thought. Returning it to its home opened a door back into a time when baseball was raw, local, and romantic. The Wallbangers embodied everything Milwaukee stood for: beer, grit, and community. From Bud Selig’s early days, to Bob Uecker’s beer commercials, to County Stadium packed with homemade signs and spray-painted bedsheets - this was a non-commercialized, non-corporate baseball. Smoking in the dugout. Closing out bars. A manager with a wooden peg leg who literally ran a tavern down the street. This was a team built in the image of its fans — Robin Yount, Paul Molitor, Rollie Fingers, Cecil Cooper and the gang. So what happens when a city’s baseball team looks, acts, and lives like the people who cheer for them? Magical things. This is the story of Harvey’s Wallbangers, the 1982 Milwaukee Brewers, and the forgotten t-shirt that brought them back to life. WATCH THIS NEXT: • I found his White Sox jacket, then I found...
