Scattered across Europe and Asia, some of World War II’s most fascinating military trucks didn’t end up in museums — they were abandoned, repurposed, and slowly absorbed into the landscapes around them. In this video, we track down real, recovered WWII vehicles and forgotten war machines that survived in the most unexpected ways: a Dodge WC62 welded into a Belgian greenhouse, a Studebaker US6 that helped power Soviet supply lines, a Mack NO artillery prime mover swallowed by a forest, and a Tatra 111 that outlasted the war that created it. You’ll also see rare half-tracks and odd survivors like the Krupp Protze, Sd.Kfz. 7, Opel Maultier, and the legendary GMC DUKW amphibious truck — each one carrying clues in rust, paint layers, and improvised repairs. Along the way, we dig into the engineering that made these trucks legendary (engines, drivetrains, suspensions, endurance design), the postwar shortages that forced civilians to adapt military surplus, and the ethical reality of documenting these sites responsibly — including permissions and environmental safety around old fuel, oil, and hazardous materials.
