Sometimes it's nice to get another person's point-of-view as a method of self-reflection. To see yourself through the eyes of others can be both humbling and exhilarating. Here at Japan House, we often are the ones behind the camera, diligently making sure to reflect our passions and ideals accurately. But once in a while, even we get a nice surprise and a chance to look at ourselves as others see us. While filming for ARTJ 209 eText, CITL's (Center for Innovation in Teaching & Learning) Instructional Media Producer, Tyler Schanck, was inspired to produce a kind of "teaser-trailer" for Chado: The Way of Tea, a class that we teach to students at the University of Illinois. Tyler was so inspired, he even provided some of the flowers and greenery used in the Chabana segment with Sensei Kimiko Gunji! You can see various Japan House staff and volunteers in this video, too! Featured in order of appearance are Director Jennifer Gunji-Ballsrud, Alex Sentowski, Coordinator Michael Darin, Honoka Adachi (hands only, calligraphy), Sensei Kimiko Gunji, Assistant Director Lindsey Stirek, (bird’s eye view only), and Assistant Diana Liao. Please take a few minutes to enjoy and let us know your thoughts!
