"The Civil War Soldier: The Infantryman" (1987) - 125th Anniversary Re-enacting Video

The Civil War often evokes glorified and romanticized images of battles, swirling smoke, bright flags and struggling masses of men. However, the drama and tension of battle was only a small part of the average soldier's life. Explore the realities of daily life for the Civil War infantryman in this living history reenactment video. Discover what type of men volunteered and why they decided to join the fight. Historic reenactors demonstrate how the infantrymen cooked and what they ate, how they dressed and what equipment they carried, and how they were trained to use muskets and work in formation. Sanitary conditions, illness and diseases, and medical care is also discussed. For anyone who was part of the 125th Anniversary series of re-enactments, this film will bring back memories as it's sort of a 'Greatest Hits' from the re-enactments of that era.
