Mosaic Canyon - unique geology and an amazing slot canyon in Death Valley!

While Death Valley has many slot canyons, one of the most popular, if not the most popular is Mosaic Canyon. In addition to being a great introduction to the park's slot canyons, Mosaic Canyon is a great introduction to off-roading on approved roads in the park, as the route to the trailhead is generally well-maintained and graded. From the trailhead, Mosaic Canyon delivers with great views of the Panamint Range, the Death Valley floor, and unique and interesting geologic features such as Mosaic Canyon Breccia and Noonday Dolomite Marble. For the intrepid hiker, the roundtrip route on this hike is four miles roundtrip with some scrambling; but for the casual hiker, a great experience can be had within the first half mile. For first time visitors to the park, or longtime visitors, this hike can be easily paired with an exploration of nearby Mesquite Flat Sand Dunes (   • Keane Wonder Mine - best mine to explore i...  ) just outside of Stovepipe Wells.
