This year, rather than focusing entirely on our “Faces of Rescue Video”, we decided to give you a grand tour of Bat World’s property, where over 750 permanent sanctuary residents reside. At the end of this video, there is a very special view of Sunshine’s display, the little bat who started it all. Without her, Bat World Sanctuary would never have existed. Other things to know about our facility as you watch: • Sheets are used in fruit bat flight for ease in cleaning. The sheets are gathered and washed daily, and the floor is swept and mopped. The light color of the sheets ensures and bats that land on the floor are easily seen when going in for nightly treat time. • The semi outdoor flight area is heated, and bay doors to the outside are opened for fresh air on nice nights (usually about 9 months out of the year). • Not shown are backup generators for the facility and staff houses, as well as 13,000-gallon water reserve for emergencies. • Emergency fire safety equipment in the event of wildfires is also stored onsite. • The facility, Learning Center, and staff houses are equipped with security windows and doors, along with security cameras. • All staff houses have gardens where melons, fig and apple trees are planted to grow for the fruit bats. • The main facility, learning center, bat castle and all staff houses have security systems in place, including cameras, security doors and windows. • The staff houses surround the main facility, providing immediate help during any emergency, including inclement weather. • Rather than central heat and air, heat panels and window AC units were installed in Learning Center to reduce energy cost and maintenance. • Our rescued animals of the sanctuary and staff include over 700 bats, 12 goats, 3 sheep, 24 dogs, 14 cats, and 11 chickens. These animals were rescued from abuse and/or slaughter. • Sanctuary property also serves as a safe release site for other wildlife rehabilitators who release opossums, raccoons, skunks, foxes, and more. • All wildlife is protected on our land, no hunting or fishing allowed.
