One of the most entertaining cars I have ever driven, the Saab Sport two stroke from 1963. In 1960, 1961 and 1962 Erik Carlsson won the RAC (Wales) rally, driving this type of car to over all victory. In 1962 and 1963 Erik Carlsson also won the Monte Carlo Rally, quite an achievement in such a small car with an engine that was tuned to some 80 bhp. The street car version is this Saab 96 "Sport" that on some markets was called Granturismo 850 or Monte Carlo 850. Its engine is a 841 cc three cylinder two stroke and with the triple Solex carburetors it delivered some 55 bhp. Especially the model years 1963 and 1964 (last year with the short nose) of the Saab 96 Sport cars are today highly appreciated. The featured car has been restored to a very good condition, only the extra head lights remain to be installed that was standard on the Sport version. The banked curve on the photo is part of the former Saab test track, now owned by NEVS. Many thanks to NEVS in Trollhättan for letting us use this track to film a part of this video! Hoojies Garage
