Please "LIKE" and "SUBSCRIBE" if you dig! This lesson on odd time signatures and "following the thread" is from my song "Perhaps Everything, Perhaps Nothing" from the album "A Lesson in Impermanence" streaming on all major platforms here: https://johnferrarabass.hearnow.com Lesson Description: In this lesson I cover two main topics: Tapping in odd time signatures and a more in depth explanation of what I talked about in my first video “Following the Thread,” a process of extracting as much as you can out of a musical idea before moving on to something new. I break down two of my favorite riffs from the song “Perhaps Everything, Perhaps Nothing” that are both based on the same rhythmic expression of 7. I wanted to not only show viewers how to play it, but how to count it. I demonstrate how you can use the same counting method, of breaking larger numbers into smaller numbers to develop your own odd groupings. I also use the breakdown of the two ideas as a platform to show how easy it is to write other ideas based on the same rhythm and how instead of being redundant, they can often flow naturally in the same song. This is what I mean by “following the thread”. I hope you guys enjoy it! Video filming + Editing done by George Manchester with @Kettlebottom John’s Instagram: / john.ferrar. .
