Philippine House Building Day 353 - Wood Floor Mistake The build day started well, with fast progress on the laundry area roof, but a problem elsewhere was found that is going to cost several man-days in time to fix. Wood floors need to be able to "breathe". It is commonly known that wood floors, whether hard wood or engineered wood, do not react well to moisture. This includes moisture that can build up underneath if an air gap is not left around the outside edges. In our case, a gap was left when the floor was installed, however that gap was then closed off when the painters were treating the bottom of the walls - either by skim coat or paint. The consequence was a moisture build up, which resulted in the floors warping quite badly. A pretty major fix is required, which started today.
