Today, the island is quiet—filled with abandoned apartment blocks, rusting industrial facilities, and traces of a life that once existed here. In this video, I explore Ikeshima slowly by bicycle, bringing my folding bike (Tern Link A7). I visit the massive housing complex, the remains of the coal mine infrastructure, and the さと地区, once known as the island’s nightlife district. Ikeshima is often described simply as a “ruins island.” But behind the decaying buildings, there are stories of real people—miners, families, children, and everyday life.
