What does it mean if I bleed after intercourse?

If you notice bleeding after having intercourse there can be a few different explanations. The first one is if you recently started just started being sexually active you might bleed or spot a little bit afterwards and that can be normal. Or if you're going to start your period or are just coming off your period you might also bleed after intercourse. But if it's not associated with your menstrual cycle and you've been sexually active for a while it is actually reason to go to the doctor because it can be a sign of complication. The doctor will ask you more specific questions, probably perform an exam, and then decide if further investigation or treatment is warranted. As for being pregnant or not, bleeding after intercourse is not a symptom of pregnancy. If you have any suspicions about being pregnant take a home pregnancy test, and wait to take it until the time that your period is missed. If your period was supposed to start and it never did then take a test. If it's negative and you continue to have complications or concerns talk with your doctor. If it's positive and you're having bleeding be sure to talk with your doctor right away because vaginal bleeding is never normal during pregnancy.
