Late November at the Mill Brook Railroad means short days, cold air, and getting critical work done before the snow really sets in. In the first half of this double-feature video, we head out in the late afternoon to retrieve the snow plow as the first flakes start falling and bring it into the shop for pre-plow maintenance. Along the way, the railroad’s usual quirks make themselves known. As the light fades, the second half of the day turns into a rare move: the Oipy Hopper 2709, an aluminum gondola that rarely sees track time and is normally stored indoors as a museum piece, is pulled out of the engine house for its first move in months. With the plow now in the shop, the gondola has to be switched back down the hill and returned to long-term storage in the sugar house. The video ends with night switching, limited light, and the last moves of the day before everything is put to bed. Quiet operations, cold weather, rare equipment, and a full transition from late afternoon into darkness on the Mill Brook Railroad. Early access and exclusive content: Patreon.com/millbrookrailroad
