Final Score: RBAI 3rds 17-19 Campbell College 3rds HT: 12-12 On the afternoon of Wednesday 28 January RBAI 3rds and CCB 3rds met at Cranmore in a replay of the quarter-final for the 3rd XV Cup. On 14th Jan the two teams had drawn 17-17. (In their Last 16 games RBAI had won 40-0 away to Regent House 3rds - while Campbell 3s had defeated RBAI 4ths 33-7 at Fox's Field Campbell College.) On a dry day with only a slight breeze the first half of this game saw some good rugby from both teams and the halftime score of 12-12 showed that this game was going to be a close run thing similar to the first game. However in the second half it was Campbell that was to dominate possession for most of it as their pack dominated. However despite some impressive CCB mauling close to Inst's line on a number of occasions the visiting side could not get over the whitewash. It was on Inst's first proper foray into CCB's half - after about 25 minutes - that they were the ones to score and take a 5-point lead. A good solo run by Inst's outside centre made it to ten metres of the line on the right hand side of the pitch. He forced a CCB infringement. A kick to touch and a short throw at the line out led to a ruck from which a single pick and drive saw Inst over the line. The conversion was missed for a 17-12 lead with only ten minutes left. Campbell once more worked their way to the Inst line and with the pack once again struggling to make it over the try line the ball was finally moved out the backline and quick transfer of the ball saw it dotted down. The Campbell kicker cooly knocked over the conversion for a 17-19 lead. Inst only had 3 or 4 minutes to find a response and while they showed their best rugby of the second half to create some good continuity of play they eventually knocked on in the midfield. CCB worked the scrum and kicked to touch to then hear the ref's whistle. There is no doubt that on the day CCB deserved their win and to progress to the semi-finals. Video: BK Productions
