Surfing in China is a new thing. There were no surf clubs or brands, no surfing events before 2007. It was then when the first Chinese surf club, Surfing Hainan, was established, and the sport introduced to the Chinese. The community is growing, yet still it’s like one big family. This happy and enthusiastic family has its home in Riyue Bay, that has the best waves in China. It’s a small village, and a fascinating melting pot, where the local and foreign traditions live side by side: The locals are fishing, the surfers are riding the waves. And now there’s a new generation of Chinese surfers growing up, as the local children have learned to surf, and have grown fond of riding the waves. Riyue Bay is a truly unique place where one can enjoy the beach, the Hainanese villages, and observe the growing of the Chinese surfing culture!
