Right now, there are 51 volcanoes actively erupting on the planet. This week's top story regards the Davidof volcano in Alaska, which is often referred to as the "Alaskan Krakatoa". It is at a raised yellow alert status as earthquakes with a potential magmatic signature continue to occur underneath its edifice. Meanwhile, in Japan, seismic unrest is also continuing at the Mount Ontake volcano. And, in Indonesia, the Mount Merapi volcano produced a series of pyroclastic flows.
