2026 is shaping up to be a surprising revival for desirable sports cars, and not just for the ultra wealthy, as we'll be seeing a couple of really exciting cars that will be priced under 40 thousand dollars. And as of now, it's looking like the entire year will be full of exciting new sports car reveals. One of the most exciting cars we'll see revealed in 2026 is the Porsche GT2 RS, and there's a few reasons why this is a big deal. The GT2 has always been the most extreme version of the 911 and when the last generation was revealed it set a new world record on the Nurburgring for production vehicles. But that was nearly 5 years ago and a lot has changed since then, and sports car fans are eager to see what the new GT2 is capable of. The latest round of prototypes show an extremely wide and aggressive car that may have as much as 1000 horsepower and looks like it's ready to crush lap records. There's no official word on when Porsche will reveal the GT2 RS but we can expect it to be sometime in mid 2026 The next 3 cars we can expect to see revealed in 2026 are all corvettes. Chevy will be introducing a new small block naturally aspirated 6.7 liter V8 that will be powering 2 new trims for the C8 corvette. The first will be the Grand Sport, which will slot between the Z06 and ZR1 and is intended to be a little easier to live with, but also honed for the race track. We can expect a reveal for the grand sport sometime in mid 2026. The next corvette we should be seeing is the long awaited Zora. This will be the halo car for the C8 generation and will essentially be a more powerful version of the ZR1X with improved aerodynamics. And that brings us to our 3rd corvette, the aforementioned ZR1X. While the entire automotive world is well aware of this groundbreaking machine, they haven't actually hit dealerships yet, and many customers are eagerly awaiting their arrival. The ZR1X should be arriving in the 1st quarter of 2026 Gazoo Racing has become a stand alone brand and just a few weeks ago they revealed the GR GT and GR GT3, and also teased a new electric Lexus LFA concept. We can look forward to seeing all 3 of these cars in the flesh in 2026. The mustang brand will have as many as 3 reveals of ultra high performance cars in 2026. We can expect a replacement for the Shelby GT500 which was last produced in 2022. The new car will have at least 800 horsepower and will look quite menacing. But there's rumors that Ford is no longer partnered with Shelby, so it may come to us under a different name. Ford has also been working on a performance update for the GTD, which we'll be seeing an official reveal for in 2026. And for some time now there's been rumors about a Mustang Dark Horse Boss but there's probably a lot of truth to those rumors as for the past year we've been seeing prototypes of an amped up Dark Horse, so a 2026 reveal is likely. On the more affordable side, Subaru will be revealing a new WRX STI on January 9th and this will be the first time the WRX STI will be available in the US since 2021. A couple months ago Subaru revealed a concept for a new STI and it looked pretty fantastic. We know that the upcoming STI will be powered by an internal combustion engine but we're not sure if it will look this good. Another affordable car that should be making an appearance in 2026 is the Gazoo Racing MR2. Rumors about a new MR2 have been swirling for years but in December of 2025, toyota officially trademarked the names GR MR2 and GR MR-S, so it looks like Toyota means business. And Earlier this year Toyota revealed the GR Yaris M Concept that featured a mid-mounted 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine, and it's believed this is the first test mule for the new MR2. During a press conference one of Toyotas racing drivers said that the GR Yaris M was the prototype for an "MR Something" and that's pretty strong evidence of an upcoming MR2. 2026 we will also be seeing an update to the Alfa Romeo Giulia, which has existed mostly unchanged for nearly a decade. The next Giulia will share the same modular platform currently being used by the latest Dodge charger and Powertrains are likely to be similar to the Charger’s, which include the 3.0-liter Hurricane twin-turbo straight-six and, for the EV model, electric motors at each axle. There could also be a hybrid version featuring Hurricane straight six and electric motors
