While not known to have been written under psychedelic influence, it was famously recorded by vocalist Jim Morrison in the midst of a full-on acid trip. They still got it done dub-free in two takes though, with only one television thrown at the control room glass. Much of the spoken word portion in the middle was first supplied by Morrison in the room. The End was also the last song the band’s original lineup ever played before Morrison’s death, and a remix of it was prominently featured in the 1979 film Apocalypse Now (stills from which are heavily featured in the video here).
