(28 Feb 2021) German police personnel were on Sunday patrolling the famous old town of Duesseldorf and the nearby banks of the Rhine river amid restrictions aimed at curbing the spread of the coronavirus. People in the city are no longer allowed to stand, sit down or lie down in the city's old town and the nearby riverbanks on weekends until 14 March. But not everyone complied with the instructions, as many people ventured out to enjoy the sunny weather on Sunday. The ban comes after tens of thousands of people gathered in the old town and on the Rhine promenade last weekend to enjoy the warming spring weather. Attempts to overturn this restrictions in court failed last Friday. The Robert Koch Institute recorded 7,890 newly confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Germany over the past day, taking the total to over 2.4 million cases. The death toll in the country rose by 157 to 70,045.
