How we dive... Chuuk Dive Sites: Fujikawa Maru This is SCUBA Dive 1 of 10 of our Adventure in Chuuk Lagoon. Chuuk Lagoon is a part of the Federated States of Micronesia (FSM) in the Pacific Ocean and is where the US Navy sank over 60 Imperial Japanese Navy cargo and Logistics ships during Operation Hailstorm in 1944 during WWII. The Fujikawa Maru is a premier Chuuk Lagoon wreck dive, featuring a 132-meter (436 ft) armed aircraft transport ship sitting upright at depths of 15-37 meters (50-121 ft). Famous for its holds containing Mitsubishi Zero fighter planes and spare parts, this well-preserved WWII relic offers spectacular, coral-encrusted, and accessible, yet deep, diving for recreational and technical divers. Aircraft Holds: The forward cargo holds are iconic, containing disassembled Mitsubishi Zero fighters, fuselage parts, propeller blades, and engines. Marine Life: The deck and superstructure are covered in colorful anemones, soft corals, and sponges, attracting abundant reef fish, turtles, and sharks. Artifacts: The wreck is rich with items, including a 6-inch bow gun (originally from 1899), machine shop equipment, gas masks, and sake bottles. Structure: The ship is mostly intact and sits upright, with the mast reaching up to 9 meters (30 ft) and the main deck at about 18-20 meters. .
