Metropolitan Capital Bank and Trust failed and was taken into receivership on January 30, 2026 marking the year's first bank failure. Based on a review of the bank's balance sheet it's clear the problems at this bank were severe and a combination of lingering issues from the 2023 Bank Crisis, Private Equity, and Commercial Real Estate caused the collapse.
