I rode alone through the heart of Snowdonia — across epic mountain roads carved by time, conflict, and legend. In this episode of Adventure Bike Chronicles, I take my adventure bike deep into Eryri (Snowdonia National Park), riding some of the most incredible and overlooked roads in North Wales. These are the kinds of routes riders pass every day without realising what they’re missing — narrow, exposed, atmospheric roads that feel ancient the moment you turn onto them. This journey isn’t just about the ride. It’s about the land. These mountains have been crossed for thousands of years — by early Welsh settlers, Roman forces, Viking raiders, Welsh princes, and invading armies. Long before engines and tarmac, these valleys were shaped by people, power, and survival. Riding through them today, you feel that weight — that sense of history written into rock and ridge. It’s also no coincidence that filmmakers are drawn here. Snowdonia’s dramatic valleys, slate quarries, and wild passes have inspired generations of storytellers and appeared in major film and TV productions, including House of the Dragon, The Witcher, Willow, and Dragonheart. And while The Lord of the Rings was filmed elsewhere, landscapes like these helped inspire Tolkien’s vision of darker lands — places that feel forged rather than formed. For this ride, Snowdonia is Mordor. Later in the journey, I slow things down with a solo wild camp by the river at Capel Curig, reflecting on the ride, the silence, and what it means to travel alone through landscapes that have carried so many stories before us.
