Showing the difference we've found of source original seed versus our own farm seed in germination rate. Correction: None of my seeds are store bought... It is surprising when I get a source seed from other Heirloom growers that for the most part don't have very good germination rate. I tell you what I do that may perhaps be different with my tomato seeds. I have found low germination rate from most Heirloom Tomato seed sources I've tried from many very good companies, and even though they are reputable... a lot of their seed doesn't seem to be very good in germination. So, to combat the risk of getting one or two to germinate, I germinate many from the package to be able to get a viable plant. This problem throughout the years has become a never ending source of frustration for me after paying very high prices for rare heirlooms. I have had quite a few seed packets from seed sources that did not germinate at all, or received the wrong seed in the packaged different from the pictured package. Then during the season, I get so busy and forget to contact that source for a refund for a new package... and so lose out in the timeline for a refund. When you do try and refund, some companies make you go through the loops of photographing the package and the back for the numbers for lot verification of seed, and then they want a picture of the tomato that came from that seed... on and on and on to get a refund. Though you would think that if you are a constant repeat customer, they would take your word for it. When it happens enough times it is a pain. The seeds that I have sold to clients, clients have told me have a really good germination rate from their description being the same as I have shown you here on the video.... My seeds have had a high germination rate using this method throughout the years with my Heirloom Tomatoes germination rate from 95-100 percent. Usually I've found with my own seed, that my germination rate on average is higher than 95 percent. In all of my own seed I show you on this video, I believe I only saw maybe one or two seeds that was not germinated in all the examples shown... making it 98-99 percent germinated. Some of the seed varieties shown had more than 10 seeds in them while I only germinated 6-8 in other ones... Problem that I have come to find, is that some of these sources outsource their seed by buying heirloom tomato seed from other farms, but sell under their label without good product testing or quality control. This seems to be the culprit of the quality control of seeds being sold online. Now, I am being more careful and reminding myself if I have poor germination from a company to photograph and document it and letting them know... however time consuming it is.
