Due to recurrent trauma on the vocal cords a swelling appears at the junction of the front one third and rear two thirds of the vocal cord since this is the most vibratory portion. Subsequent trauma by continued poor vocal habits makes the nodule larger and firmer. The symptoms are hoarseness, weak voice, staring to speak and sometimes pain while talking. In some rare cases the person loses her voice completely - a condition called Aphonia. They are diagnosed by your ENT Specialist by a simple OPD procedure called Laryngoscopy where the nodules are clearly demonstrable.
