(19 Apr 2008) HEADLINE: Neo Nazi rally sparks outrage, violence --------------------------------------- CAPTION: Approximately 30 members of the National Socialist movement - self-proclaimed Neo-Nazis - marched through the streets of Washington D.C. Saturday, setting off a host of counter protests near the capital. (April 19) ---------------------------------------- [Notes:ANCHOR VOICE] NB. This is a voiceover transcript, not a full shotlist: With security tight...and tensions high... SOT: CROWD CHANTING UP "Go home" About 30 members of the National Socialist Movement -- a self-proclaimed Neo Nazi group -- took to the streets of Washington D-C Saturday. Vowing to march to the capital with a message for the government. SOT:(English) Jeff Schoep - Commander of the National Socialist Movement "Nobody in America wants the illegals here. Nobody. Except for these corrupt politicians in that building back there...We're here to send them home But it was a message not well received by the much larger crowd following the procession --- SOT Marco Del Fugeo - Counter Protester: "They are violent. They promote violence and hate towards our community, in this case Latin American immigrants, and we are here to tell them that we won't stand for that hate and we will not let them march and harass and preach their hate in our neighborhoods and communities." The day would soon turn violent, though... as a chaotic scene broke out on the lawn of the National Mall. Forcing police to use aggressive measures to try to restrain counter demonstrators. It was a scene many bystanders said they couldn't understand... SOUNDBITE (English) Daniel Chapman - Bystander "I think its kind of ironic that thirty people are warranting this much fuss and that people of color or of... I don't know... Hated minorities are having to protect ridiculous people." Officials say five people, not associated with the Neo-Nazis, were arrested protesting the group's march.
