From there, we continue north toward Barangaroo before looping back across the historic Pyrmont Bridge — one of Sydney’s oldest swing bridges — to circle the harbour as the sky begins to glow with the last light of the day. Once a working port and industrial zone, the area underwent major redevelopment in the late 20th century, transforming into the lively public space it is today. Landmarks like the International Convention Centre (ICC), the SEA LIFE Aquarium and the newly redeveloped Ribbon building (home to W Sydney and the IMAX Theatre) help anchor the precinct with modern architecture and big-ticket attractions. Most days you’ll find locals grabbing food by the water, tourists lining up for boats, and office workers cutting across the harbour to reach the CBD — often all at the same time. Despite its reputation as a tourist hotspot, Darling Harbour still offers plenty of genuinely enjoyable pockets. Cockle Bay Wharf is filled with casual dining and waterfront bars, perfect for people-watching.
