Before any star burned, the universe had already passed through its most decisive transitions. In that unlit interval, matter, radiation, gravity, and dark matter set the conditions for every galaxy, planet, and atomically rich environment that followed. What Happened Before the First Stars Lit the Universe begins with the hot plasma after the Big Bang, when photons scattered off free electrons and no atoms could survive, then moves through inflation’s stretched quantum fluctuations and the first three minutes of nucleosynthesis that fixed hydrogen, helium, and trace lithium abundances. Around 380,000 years later, recombination formed neutral atoms and released the Cosmic Microwave Background, marking the start of the cosmic Dark Ages: a cooling expanse of neutral gas shaped by dark matter halos and tiny density variations. As gravity pulled gas inward, rare molecular hydrogen provided the cooling needed for collapse, leading to protostars and the first metal-free Population III stars, whose ultraviolet radiation, supernovae, and chemical enrichment drove reionization and transformed the early universe into the first structured cosmic dawn. #Space #Cosmology #BigBang #CMB #DarkMatter #Reionization #JWST #CosmicDawn Catch the next upload.
