(27 Dec 2019) The Newseum in Washington, DC will close at the end of the year. "After more than 11 years and nearly 10 million visitors, the Newseum will close its doors here on historic Pennsylvania Avenue on Dec. 31, 2019," a statement found on the Newseum's website says. Claire Meyers, from Arlington, VA says "It's always been like on my to do list. But it wasn't until I found out that it was closing and I was like, shoot, I have until the end of the year." "I think that part of the reason people don't come more often and specifically myself is because it's a paid museum," she said. The Washington museum is an interactive environment dedicated to journalism and promotes the First Amendment and a free press. "I'm really surprised it's closing," says Ailyn Kelly, Washington, DC resident who was making her first visit to the museum. The Newseum is a privately-funded museum that has struggled financially for years the statement by the Newseum said. "Continuing to operate in our current location has proven unsustainable," the statement reads. The seven-level, 250,000 square foot museum features 15 theaters and 15 galleries.
