Minnesota just beat ICE and is forcing them to back down. That’s what some are saying after “Border Tsar” Tom Homan took over local ICE operations and is pushing for a scaled back presence. He admitted that ICE operations haven’t been “perfect” and that unprofessional agents would be “dealt with...” (I wouldn’t hold my breath on that). He also said he wanted to “draw down” ICE operations. This includes not even engaging with “agitators” and only going after those with criminal histories and who pose a danger to the public. HOWEVER, he still said that undocumented people at large always remain at risk. There’s a catch to all this: Homan wants the state to let county jails share information with ICE in return for backing off. Meaning that they “may notify ICE of the release dates” of “criminal public safety risks.” On paper that looks like a big concession… except even ICE officials have recognized that MINNESOTA ALREADY DOES THIS. So is this just a way to just save face and claim they got a deal. Homans’ demeanor stood out to a lot of people because it’s so different from Gestapo Greg.
