Ka Mate is actually a Maori poem that caught our attention due to the energetic way it is chanted-danced to and the power and pronounciacion of the words that had sent chills down our spines the first time it hit our ears. Te Rauparaha, a Maori Ngāti Toa chief composed Ka Mate as a celebration of life over death after his lucky escape from pursuing Ngati Maniapoto and Waikato enemies. The Ka Mate is performed before every confrontation to honor your opponent in the fight about to commence. Nowadays it is used as a pre game ritual for most of New Zealand's athletic teams with a few variations here and there. The most popular version is the one performed by New Zealand's Rugby team, the "All Blacks". KA MATE Ka mate! Ka mate! Ka ora! Ka ora! Ka mate! Ka mate! Ka ora! Ka ora! Tenei te tangata puhuru-huru Nana nei i tiki mai Whakawhiti te ra! Aue upane! Aue Kaupane! Aue upane, Kaupane Whiti te ra! Hi! We added two translations of the lyrics. I live I live I die I die Behold the brave man! Translation wise there are a few different here and there over the internet with different interpretations of te meaning. The bottom line remains the same though... Cheers
