Happy Thanks Giving here in Canada , and anywhere else celebrating today Important information that may help you improve the health of your orchids My Water Program SIX WEEK ROTATING WATER SCHEDULE_____ WEEK ONE I am now adding cal mag, “GENERAL HYDROPONICS CALiMAGic”(proven improvement with it) 1/4 tsp to one gal, in my tap water. Hot days of summer could use 1/2 tsp to help prevent yellow leaves dropping than add Black Tea. Black Tea Soak, I will pour boiling water on the tea bag (black tea) (this helps the tea disperse into the water) Than add to the water you will be soaking the orchids in. I will do the same for the bowls I use. Slipper orchids and cymbidiums prefer green tea :0) Why Black Tea: Helps revive dehydrated orchids (could soak 1/2 day for bad cases) Increases the amount of nitrogen in the pot, so it is available for your orchids improving growth during growing season -rich with tannin acid Tannins similar to group of polyphenols found naturally in rain-forest -naturally found in bark, leaves, buds and roots -in the forest rain flowing over the above, feeds the orchids :0) it will encourage growth and re-hydrate. ps. also available in black tea: nitrogen, potassium, phosphorus,calcium and , magnesium WEEK TWO AND THREE Add always first in water 1/4 tsp. Cal mag per gallon of water (my sink holds 4 to 5 gallons so I add 1 tsp) Than add the following to the same water : Your fertilizer of choice NORMAL SOAK IN WATER WITH added cal mag and 1/4 OR LESS OF RECOMMENDED FERTILIZER ON PRODUCT Note: Fertilizer is not a food! Plants get their food from photosynthesis, air , carbon dioxide, and water? Fertilizer helps with photosynthesis making it easier. ______FOR THE APPROPRIATE SEASON SPRING TO FALL (OCTOBER) MAINLY HIGHER FIRST NUMBER NITROGEN FOR GREEN LEAFY GROWTH , I have been using Shultz orchid fert 15-5-5 but will be changing to growing season fert. From Clouds Orchids 15-5-15 as I like the all over growth for more support during our hot dry summers (will notify you when I start using it) NOTE: THE LAST NUMBER POTASSIUM K FOR ALL OVER GROWTH AND GOOD HEALTH CAN BE HIGH ALSO DR YIN TUNG WAND AT UNIVERSITY OF TEXAS, NITROGEN DEFICIENCY IN SPRING FAST GROWING TIME, MAY CAUSE ******YELLOWING OF LOWER LEAVES FALL TO SPRING HIGHER MIDDLE NUMBER PHOSPHORUS P ROOT GROWTH AND FLOWERING WEEK FOUR Now adding 1/4 tsp of cal mag to 1 gallon first water first, than the Epsom salts is added to water SOAK 10 TO 15 MINUTES IN 1 TABLESPOON EPSOM SALTS TO 5 GALLONS OF WATER (MY SINK HOLDS 4 TO 5 GALLONS) Why Epsom salts it will remove salt deposits from pots roots media making bushier healthier plant. Increases chlorophyll, deter pests and will help balance PH WEEK FIVE JUST WATER FLUSHING This is very important, to remove buildup of salts and fertilizer, not used by the plant, and building up in medium or pot WEEK SIX Cali Magic added than seaweed extract (seaweed extract) major and minor nutrients, amino acids and growth promoting substances, auxins and cytokinins and gibberellins enhanced root growth! Good when re potting Helps increase root Mass, but do not overdo the amount! Important stay at minimum dose. Too much of a Good Thing can cause Bad results Before the sea weed I added 1/4 tsp cal mag, to one gallon water.........than add the sea weed extract as follows 1/4 TSP TO ONE GAL OF WATER (SEA WEED EXTRACT) Fertilizers I use in Spring after most flowers are finished, to encourage new growth Schultz 15-5-5 and also for some waterings switch to (Plant Prod 25-10-10 for Orchids at 1/4 strength of what is recommended. I use this once a week, and in summer when i may water a second time in the week the second watering is just water. Than come October (Halloween) I switch to Schultz orchid food 19-31-17 or one I recently purchased on line Schultz 18-27-18 2mg o This is just what I use and something similar would be fine. . Dendrobiums however, should get a Balanced Fert. 20-20-20 or something similar, I use Plant Prod house plant fert 15-15-18 They say once every couple weeks but I will use a pinch once a week (important not to over do and cause kei ki growth When watering wipe leaves and check for scale etc. Worth it in the long run
