Presented by Andrew Osborne (NDRI). This webinar session conveys the impact of military culture on the orientation and potential response(s) of veteran offenders in drug courts. This is explained through discussion of military core values and their impact on client behavior, special issues for women veterans, and special issues relevant to the "era" in which the veteran served. Mr. Osborne describes the branches of military service and lists deployment engagements that veteran offenders may have been involved in. He discusses both the benefits and difficulties of a militaristic lifestyle, the anagram "BATTLEMIND" - which explains the mind-set of such a lifestyle, - and recognizable cues that a military service member may need help. The value of training for family members to help understand the effect military service will have on their loved ones is also discussed. Special issues presented in this webinar are: concerns regarding prescription medicines and alcohol; Military Sexual Trauma (MST); women's health; LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender) topics; increased suicide risk among veterans and those on active duty; and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). Helpful resources and suggestions for drug courts are included in closing. Additional accessibility options for this video are available upon request. Email [email protected] or call 202-885-2875.
