I describe what the working voltages of the battery are while charging and discharging. I also go over what a capacity test is. When rebuilding a hybrid battery, a capacity test is the most important step. I show step by step how to perform one the correct way. This test will tell you if the battery cell is good or if it's bad. There are a lot of places to buy batteries and there are also a lot of scams. I explain the ones I've found during my career. Balancing batteries is necessary when rebuilding a battery pack. I will show you how to do this step by step. By the end of this tutorial, you'll know how a hybrid nickel metal hydride battery cell works, charges, and balances. COMMON CODES AND PROBLEMS --------------‐---------------------------------------------------- P0A80: This is the most common code signaling a failing hybrid battery and usually requires replacement. Common causes may include: Defective HV Battery, module, or battery pack Individual module resistance is excessive. Module voltage out of balance HV battery pack fans/computer failure Corroded, broken or loose busbar connectors/wiring. P0A7F: Indicates a deterioration in the hybrid battery pack, often seen in older vehicles. P3011-P3024: These codes signify an imbalance in voltage between different battery blocks within the pack, with the last two digits indicating the specific block with low voltage. P0AA6: Points to a fault in the hybrid battery voltage system isolation. The DTC is output when the state of charge (SOC) of the HV battery decreases as a result of running out of gas, leaving the car in the N position, or a malfunction in the HV Control System.
