Daoyin exercise for digestion with Coach Steve Maxwell

This Daoyin (Qigong) exercise is aimed at regulating the spleen meridian. In Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), the spleen plays an important role in the digestion and assimilation of food. The spleen is considered a pair with the stomach in TCM, together they assimilate and distribute nutrients for the "production of Qi and blood". This is in contrast with the role of the spleen in Western medicine, where its function is to filter and cleanse the blood. This exercise can be done after a meal to aid in digestion, performed in sets of 7 on each side (total 14), if you are feeling particularly bloated after a heavy meal you can do more sets until you feel relieved. It can also be done before a meal to "fire up the digestion engine" to prepare the body for food intake. This exercise is derived from the 12th movement of the Tendon Change Classics (易筋经).
